The double-hulled barge “Puerto América”, with a capacity of 20 thousand barrels (MB), specially designed for river navigation, was received by PETROPERU in a formal ceremony held at the shipyards of the Iquitos Marine Industrial Service (SIMAI), company commissioned by the state oil company to build a total of 12 barges with capacities of 8 and 20 MB.

The PETROPERU Chairman of the Board, Eduardo Guevara Dodds, participated in the handover ceremony, who was accompanied by the General Manager Carlos Barrientos Gonzales and the Selva Refining Department Manager, Martín Chancafe Gray. On behalf of the Peruvian Navy, the presence of Vice Admiral Silvio Alva Villamón, Chairman of the Board of Sima Peru; Vice Admiral César Colunge Pinto, General Commander of Amazon Operations; Vice Admiral Rodolfo Sablish Luna Victoria, General Director of Navy Material; Vice Admiral Federico Bravo de Rueda Delgado, General Director of the Navy Personnel; Rear Admiral Gian Marco Chiapperini Faverio, Executive Director of Sima Peru and Captain Hugo Valles Iglesias, Chief of Sima Iquitos.

Guevara Dodds highlighted the joint work that the state company has been carrying out with the Peruvian Navy for the execution of this important project to build barges for the safe transportation of fuels by river. "This effort by PETROPERU contributes to strengthen our commitment to the Amazon, by carrying out the river transportation of fuels in a safe and responsible manner, thus contributing to the preservation of our country's biodiversity," he said.

This is the eleventh barge that PETROPERU has received from SIMAI, which was commissioned to build twelve double-hulled vessels for navigation on the Amazonian rivers, optimizing the transportation of fuels under current regulations.

PETROPERU currently has the boats “Lagunas”, “Saramuro” and “Río Paranapura” of 20 MB each, in addition to “Río Putumayo”, “Río Yarapa”, “Río Pisqui”, “Tahuayo”, Río Yavarí ”, “Río Urubamba” and “Río Ampiyacu”, each with a capacity to transport 8 MB of fuel. In the coming weeks, the barge number eleventh, called “Río Mayo”, will be delivered.

It is important to note that the prestigious company Bureau Veritas verifies compliance with international manufacturing standards for these double-hull barges, which have demanded the processing of up to 5,800 tons of steel and have generated approximately 250 direct and indirect jobs.
