Petroperú promotes agroforestry development in Amazonian communities

The Ikam Kuitamat project, a flagship initiative of Petroperú, continues to consolidate itself as a development engine in the communities located along the North Peruvian Pipeline. To date, 80 hectares of cocoa have been planted under agroforestry systems, with an environmentally responsible approach. Each of the 80 beneficiaries of the project receives personalized technical assistance to ensure proper and sustainable management of the crops.

With the aim of optimizing processes, the project has delivered tools and equipment, such as pruning shears and brush cutters, to the beneficiaries. This equipment will allow efficient management of the crop, essential for controlling weeds and ensuring the success of agroforestry cocoa in the short and medium term. In total, 80 STILL brush cutters have been delivered, a key tool for the maintenance and cleaning of the lots.

At the group level, training continues using the "learning by doing" methodology, through Field Schools, which complement individualized technical assistance and provide practical training in the field.

The Ikam Kuitamat project aims to plant 80 hectares of cocoa under agroforestry systems in the communities of Najaim Paraíso, Tayuntsa, Nueva Unida and Alto Pajakuts, in the Amazonas region. Production of these crops is expected to begin in 2026, consolidating the project as a sustainable and key initiative for the agroforestry development of the region.
