PETROPERÚ presents winning works of the 2020 Copé Award and announces the launch of the 2021 edition

As part of the 2020 Copé Prize, PETROPERÚ will present the winning works of the XXI Short Story and VII Essay Biennials in online activities that will be preceded by two talks with honorable mentions in each category, by virtue of the high level of the works presented.

The first of the talks "The Honorable Mentions take the floor", will be presented this Wednesday 21, from 7pm, and will be under the care of Víctor Hugo Palacios, writer, philosopher and teacher, who obtained the honorable mention of the VII Essay Biennial. Victor will be accompanied by the professor and researcher from the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, Agustín Prado.

On Thursday, April 22, also from 7 pm the book “De curaca a congresista. Vigencia de una familia indígena en la política nacional” (“From curaca to congressman. Validity of an indigenous family in national politics”), 2020 Copé Essay Award, by the teacher and writer David Quichua Chaico, will be presented. With commentary by the historian and anthropologist Luis Millones and the teacher, writer, teacher and member of the Peruvian Academy of Language, Eduardo Hopkins.

On Wednesday, April 28, at 7 pm, the writers Pedro Llosa, Marcela Cossíos and Christian Elguera, honorable mentions of the XXI Short Story Biennial, will meet to talk with the teacher and researcher Agustín Prado.

On Thursday, April 29 at 7 pm the storybook “El dedo en el disparador y los cuentos ganadores, Menciones Honrosas y Finalistas de la XXI Bienal de Cuento – Premio Copé 2020” ("The finger on the trigger and the winning stories, Honorable Mentions and Finalists of the XXI Short Story Biennial – 2020 Copé Award") will be presented. The writer, teacher and recent 2020 National Culture Award, Teresa Ruiz Rosas, and the teacher and doctor in Art and Literature, Carla Sagástegui, will offer commentary. On behalf of PETROPERÚ, the General Manager, Carlos Barrientos, will be present.

All these activities will be broadcast on the Facebook Live of the PETROPERÚ Cultural Center, with free access.

2021 Copé Award

On the same Thursday, April 29, the state oil company will announce the launch of the call for the 2021 Copé Award, corresponding to the XX Poetry Biennial and VIII Novel Biennial.

The Copé Award is a literary competition organized and promoted by PETROPERÚ since 1979. This year, the Copé Award celebrates 42 years of constant promotion and dissemination of Peruvian literature throughout the country. This incessant work is supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is responsible for disseminating the bidding rules in Peruvian diplomatic missions abroad.

This way, the state oil company renews its commitment to the development of culture and literary creation in Peru and appreciates the dedication of the writers who year after year participate in the competition, now in an online environment, from more places in the country and of the world.
