After coordination and dialogue, it was possible for the leaders of the area, Petroperú operational personnel and its contractors to enter today, Friday, January 27, early in the morning, the area of kilometer 390 of Section II of the North Peruvian Pipeline (ONP). in the province of Condorcanqui, Amazonas region, to contain the leak of crude with the placement of a metal clip. Supervisors from the Agency for Environmental Assessment and Enforcement (OEFA) were present at this action.

As part of the Petroperú Contingency Plan, personnel deployed in the area will continue with the repair work on the pipeline, as well as the containment and recovery of the crude oil spilled as a result of this event caused by an intentional cut, registered on January 18.

It should be noted that since this attack became known, specialized personnel from Petroperú remained alert in the vicinity, with the necessary equipment and implements to seal the pipeline and begin the work to contain the crude oil and, in this way, avoid keep expanding to other areas. However, they were prevented from entering due to opposition from some leaders and demonstrators in the area, without the guarantees of the case, as verified by the authorities.

Simultaneously, while coordination was being achieved to enter the point of origin of the spill, Petroperú proceeded to install containment barriers in the Chiangos River, after the consent granted by other neighboring communities, thus preventing the crude from continuing to expand.

It should be remembered that prior to this intentional cut, since January 14, protesters staged various attacks on the ONP pipeline, whose images were disseminated on social networks and the media nationwide. As part of these high-risk actions, they even set fire to the pipeline at kilometer 389 of Section II. For these facts, including the cut, Petroperú has filed the corresponding complaints.

Petroperú reiterates its willingness to dialogue to continue with the definitive repair and cleaning work on the pipeline, urging the residents to stay away from the area of the spill and avoid collecting the oil, since it is a task that requires safety measures. adequate protection.

Likewise, it calls on the communities to allow the entry of the Peruvian National Police and the Public Ministry to initiate the corresponding investigations, seeking to identify those responsible for this criminal act that has had a serious impact on the environment and the neighboring communities.
