PETROPERÚ orchard program promotes the planting of ecological food
PETROPERÚ closed its Urban Agriculture Program, implemented in various human settlements near the Conchán Refinery, south of Lima, for the benefit of the inhabitants of the area.
The neighbors who participated in this bio-garden program, from the Víctor Chero and Valle de Jesús human settlements, had -for several months- an intensive training and support process, thanks to the support of IPES, an organization that seeks to improve food security and nutrition, generating -simultaneously- jobs and fair and quality income, especially in surrounding areas of the city.
It should be noted that PETROPERÚ has been promoting this program, for the fourth consecutive year, through the Sustainable Development Corporate Management, which -during the last three months, and always with the support of IPES-, has trained the neighbors in the implementation from their own bio-gardens, obtaining totally organic fruits and vegetables, since they were cultivated without using any pesticide, which results in having food totally free of toxic agents.
In this way, it seeks to replace the industrialized and harmful way of farming, eradicating pests with organic or homemade insecticides such as avocado pits or chili peppers, compost and earthworm humus are used to fertilize the land.
In addition, the sustainable use of unused public spaces has been achieved, transforming a vacant area -such as a garbage dump- into a green area-, for family use.
Thus, PETROPERÚ strengthens its presence in the areas adjacent to its refinery and maintains its commitment to improve the quality of life of its neighbors, promoting good relations with the community.
