PETROPERU met with representatives of the civil society of Talara
As part of the communication and citizen participation activities of the Talara Refinery Modernization Project (PMRT), PETROPERU met today with the representatives of the civil society of the oil city.
The informative meeting was held at 11:30 hours at the Petroperu Club and is part of the commitments of the Community Relations Plan (PRC) of the Environmental Impact Study (EIA) of the PMRT.
Congressman Luis Lopez Vilela participated in the meeting, as well as representatives of organized civil society, including neighborhood committees, associations and representative institutions of the community.
On behalf of PETROPERU, the General Manager of the Company, Esteban Bertarelli Bustamente, the Corporate Manager of Social Management and Communications, Beatriz Alva Hart and the Talara Refining Manager, Jorge Almestar Mauricio participated. Representatives of the Cobra S.C.L. Consortium were also present.
At the meeting, Eng. Almestar Mauricio reported on the progress of the PMRT and the scope of the contract with the Consortium Cobra S.C.L. for the construction of the Auxiliary Units, whose start is scheduled for September of this year. Currently, the consortium is carrying out detailed engineering work for these industrial plants.
Dr. Alva Hart, for her part, reiterated that the contract with the Consortium Cobra S.C.L. it is governed according to the Community Relations Plan of the PMRT EIA. Also, the official explained the strategies that are being applied to guarantee a better management of the hiring of local labor in this final stage of the project; for which a maximum of 1,600 workers will be required at the time of greatest demand.
In this regard, he explained that the Local Committee will have a greater participation in this contracting process. He also recalled that the names of local workers are published in supplements for the population to identify the Talareños who work in the project.
Then, officials of the state oil company listened attentively to the interventions of the attendees, much of which focused on unemployment and lack of opportunities for young people, as well as on the problems facing this province.
At the close of the meeting, Eng. Bertarelli Bustamante emphasized that PETROPERU will make its best effort to meet the population's expectations and announced that similar meetings will continue to be held in the near future to communicate the progress of the project and gather the opinions of the community. He assured that the Consortium Cobra S.C.L. ensure the hiring of local labor, according to the provisions of the PMRT EIA.
