PETROPERU launches its first 20 thousand barrel, double-hulled barge in Iquitos
PETROPERU launched its first barge with capacity for 20 thousand barrels and double hull in the shipyard of the Industrial Service of the Navy of Iquitos (SIMAI). At the ceremony, held on Thursday, February 28, Mr. Esteban Bertarelli, General Manager of the state oil company and a delegation of Jungle Refinery officials from PETROPERU and SIMAI officials were present.
This is the first of five barges with double hull and 20 thousand barrels of capacity, out of a total of 12 barges with double hulls; the remaining seven are eight thousand barrels of capacity. This was reported by Eng. Bertarelli, who noted that "this is a new step of PETROPERÚ in the process of improving the safety conditions in the transport of hydrocarbons in the rivers of the Amazon, and in compliance with current regulations." He also highlighted the work of SIMAI "in merit to his career and experience to take on large projects and trusting, in addition, that this activity generates impact on the local economy," he concluded.
The first barges - "Río Putumayo" and "Río Yarapa", of 8,000 barrels each - were delivered in 2018 and are already fulfilling their objective of transporting fuels more safely through the rivers of La Selva. While the "Rio Pisqui" ship, also of 8 thousand barrels, was launched on February 19 and will come into operation soon.
Similarly, the barge "Lagunas", the first of 20,000 barrels, will soon join the river-sailing fleet of PETROPERU, meeting established standards for the benefit of the safety of the coastal communities and the natural environment.
The ceremony was prior to the departure of the Itinerant Platforms of Social Action (PIAS) and was attended by Premier Cesar Villanueva, the Ministers of Defense, Production, Health and Development and Social Inclusion, the Regional Governor of Loreto, among other authorities.
