Petroperú is controlling oil outcrop caused by an intentional cut to the ONP

Petroperú managed to control the release of crude oil as a result of an intentional cut to the pipeline at kilometer 376+536 of Section II of the North Peruvian Pipeline (ONP), near the Shugki annex of the Nueva Unida native community in the Santa María de Nieva district, Condorcanqui province, in the Amazonas region.

Upon becoming aware of the incident, Petroperú immediately activated its Contingency Plan, proceeding to close the valve at km 371 and sending personnel with the necessary equipment to carry out first response actions and dialogue with the communal authorities to enter the area.

In this way, agreements were reached with the community to carry out the work, which allowed the oil leak to be controlled on Friday, February 9, with the placement of a temporary clamp in the pipe. Likewise, its staff maintains a permanent dialogue with local authorities for the normal development of repair and cleaning work in the area and has been reporting these actions to the supervisory bodies.

It is necessary to indicate that today, Saturday, February 10, members of the National Police of Peru and personnel from the Public Ministry, together with workers from Petroperú and the apu of Shugki, verified that the pipeline had suffered three cuts caused by people not yet identified.

As recalled, Section II of the ONP has been on a scheduled shutdown since December 29, 2023 due to low crude oil inventories at Station 5.
