PETROPERU invites the Chapis community to depose a measure of force to restart remediation in km. 221 of the ORN
PETROPERU addresses public opinion to report the following:
- Today the authorities of the Chapis CCNN and Annexes held a long meeting with officials of PETROPERU, in Lima. During this meeting PETROPERU ratified its commitment to conclude in the shortest time possible the remediation at Km. 221 of the North Branch Pipeline (ORN) until the environmental conditions are restored, duly confirmed by the regulatory bodies. He called for the withdrawal of the current measure of force that prevents the resumption of work in the area.
- The communal authorities requested PETROPERU additional support to which the Company had previously agreed and executed in the area. Among the new requests is the construction of a communal room, the transfer of machinery for the construction of truck paths, continue with the necessary actions to determine possible effects that lead to eventual compensation and craft workshops to strengthen the cultural identity.
- The Company accepted the new requirements and proposed that a Technical Commission make a visit to the area to prepare the implementation of the requested. Likewise, PETROPERU undertook to develop training for environmental monitors and that in December the Chapins CCNN will be incorporated into the North Peruvian Pipeline and Early Warning Program.
- Despite these commitments and the Company's willingness to dialogue, the communal authorities did not agree to lift the measure of force that prevents further cleaning and remediation and, consequently, the protection of the communities and the environment.
- PETROPERU again urges the authorities and population of Chapis to reject this measure of unnecessary force and return to the path of dialogue to solve their requirements.
