PETROPERÚ in dialogue with transporters from Iquitos

Faced with the rise in fuel prices, officials from the Iquitos Refinery spoke with Pedro Soto Gutiérrez, from the Federation of Motorcycle Taxi Drivers, Judith Pancorbo Salas, leader of the Highway Axis, and Dutuledd Serván Rojas from the Federation of Mototaxis and Transportistas de Loreto, to whom Various concerns regarding the subject were cleared.

It was specified that Peru is an importer of oil and derived products. Its prices and that of fuels are defined by the international prices of the relevant markets, based on supply and demand worldwide. These are the ones that define the behavior of prices in all the fuel sales companies in the country, so it was pointed out that the current price increase is NOT the responsibility of PETROPERÚ.

In this sense, the rise in prices in the country is explained by external phenomena, such as the recovery of the economy of developed countries, the start of the global vaccination against Covid and the lower production of crude oil by the grouped producing countries. in OPEC+. These factors have triggered the international price of oil and derivatives; what has been reflected in the national market.

Likewise, it was reported that Iquitos Refinery has been operating partially due to a temporary issue generated by the lower delivery of crude oil due to the departure of the operator of Lot 8 (Pluspetrol) that supplied crude to the refinery. Faced with this temporary situation, we are importing products that allow us to satisfy local demand.

PETROPERÚ's main mission is to supply fuels to the entire country, which is why our Company is the only one that distributes and supplies Iquitos and the entire Peruvian jungle for more than 50 years, with the most competitive prices and despite the complexity involved in providing the energy necessary to maintain economic dynamics in this vast region of the country.

The Company, throughout its entire existence, has faced various adverse situations, such as social conflicts, natural phenomena, among others; that have put its response capacity to the test, and it has always developed strategies - and, above all, deployed its social mission - as a sign of its commitment to the progress and development of Peru.
