PETROPERU implements improvements to increase the employment possibilities of talara locals
Since the beginning of the construction of the new Talara Refinery, the hiring of local labor has been guaranteed, according to what is indicated in the Environmental Impact Study (EIA), which establishes a minimum of 70% in unskilled labor and gives priority to Talara locals in the recruitment of skilled labor.
This was reported by Beatriz Alva Hart, Corporate Manager of Social Management and Communications, during her presentation at the informative meeting which had the participation of Congressman Luis Lopez Vilela; the provincial mayor of Talara, Rosa Vega Castillo; the regional supervisor of the National Superintendency of Labor Inspection (Sunafil), Orlando Añazco Nunjar; the general manager of PETROPERU, Esteban Bertarelli Bustamante; Jorge Almestar Mauricio, Talara Refining Manager and members of the Local Committee.
Alva Hart presented the historical statistics of the hiring of local labor, in which it can be seen that the highest peak of unskilled labor was presented in 2015 with 96%. So far in 2018 the hiring of unskilled labor is 85% from Talara. Likewise, during the execution of the project, skilled labor has remained above 31% of local workers.
The list of Talara locals who are participating in the PMRT, who have authorized the dissemination of their names, is periodically published in supplements of regional circulation, which allows, in addition to the transparency of the level of compliance with the hiring of local labor, validation citizen
He also mentioned that actions have been taken to reduce the gap between local supply and labor demand of contractors and subcontractors of the Talara Refinery Modernization Project (PMRT), such as the training of local workers in technical activities required by the project. This program has allowed to enhance the work skills of 250 Talara locals with studies and experience in welding in different specialties and assembly of scaffolding.
He also indicated that as part of his actions of social responsibility, PETROPERÚ began in 2017 a program of entrepreneurship promotion aimed at Talara women of limited economic resources. Last year they trained 80 and this year 140 women from Talamanca will be trained, who will also receive the necessary tools to start their own business.
The program will last 399 days. Their training in addition to specialization, includes courses for the creation and formalization of Micro and Small Enterprises (MYPES) that allows them to generate their own income, which will be constituted with a 'seed capital' and will be monitored to ensure their development in the local market .
Alva Hart also mentioned the efforts that have been made to strengthen the soft skills of people with different skills in the province of Talara, who have been trained with the aim of increasing their chances of employment.
