PETROPERU implements bio-gardens in loreto communities
As part of its Social Management Plan, PETROPERU implemented the "Project of Promotion, Installation and Training in the Management of Bio-gardens with Organic Vegetables and Medicinal Plants", through a dynamic work with the neighboring communities to Section I of the North Peruvian Pipeline.
More than 60 people, between men and women, from the communities of San Antonio, Cuninico, Saramuro and Saramurillo were trained in the installation and management of vegetable gardens, seeking to reinforce food security and nutrition in these native communities of Loreto.
The course included the management of soils to obtain good harvests making use of composting prepared by the same people with organic inputs to produce healthy food. Likewise, it promoted the collection of traditional knowledge for the management of medicinal plants and the care of the environment.
In this context, a variety of vegetables and medicinal plants have been planted, among which are cilantro, lettuce, pickles, tomato, sweet pepper, radish, lemon verbena, ginger, oregano, verbena, among others. The objective is to meet the food needs of families, promote good nutrition of children and the health of the community.
This action strengthens the practice of productive and healthy habits, stimulating a sustainable activity to support the progress of these locations. In this way, PETROPERU reinforces its commitment to the welfare of families located in its areas of influence, through activities that improve their quality of life.
