PETROPERÚ has a new barge for the safe transport of fuels in the Amazon
In a symbolic ceremony held at the Iquitos Naval Base, on the banks of the Amazon River, the Industrial Service of the Navy - Iquitos, SIMAI delivered to PETROPERU the barge "Río Paranapura", which has a capacity to transport 20 thousand barrels of fuels.
At the ceremony, the President of the Board of PETROPERU, Eduardo Guevara Dodds, who was accompanied by General General, Carlos Barrientos Gonzales and the Selva Refining Department Manager, Martín Chancafe Gray, highlighted the joint work that the state company has been carrying out with the Peruvian Navy, for the execution of this important project of construction of barges for the safe transport of fuels by river.
“This new installment shows the effort of both institutions; our capacities to face challenges, to innovate and adapt to extreme and adverse circumstances such as the pandemic, and to continue advancing to meet our objective of bringing energy to the entire Amazon region as part of our commitment to the country," said Guevara Dodds.
This is the tenth barge that PETROPERU has received from SIMAI, to whom it commissioned the construction of twelve double-hulled vessels for navigation on the Amazonian rivers, transporting fuel, under current safety regulations.
PETROPERU currently has the vessels “Lagunas” and “Saramuro”, of 20 thousand barrels each, sailing, in addition to “Río Putumayo”, “Río Yarapa”, “Río Pisqui”, “Tahuayo”, “Río Yavarí”,“Río Urubamba” and “Rio Ampiyacu”, each one with the capacity to transport 8 thousand barrels of fuel.
In December of this year and March of 2021, PETROPERU expects to receive the vessels “Puerto América” and “Río Mayo”, both of 20 thousand barrels, according to a program established by SIMAI. It is important to specify that each of these barges meets the corresponding international quality standards.
In the same ceremony, the first campaign of itinerant platforms of social action (PIAS) was launched in the city of Iquitos. The event was attended by the President of the Council of Ministers, Walter Martos, the Minister of Energy and Mines, Luis Inchásticategui, the Minister of Defense, Jorge Chávez, the Minister of Culture, Alejandro Neyra, the Minister of Development and Social Inclusion, Patricia Donayre and the Commander General of the Navy, Admiral Fernando Cerdán, among other authorities.
