Petroperú guarantees the optimal and sustained production of oil and gas in lot Z-69
In a formal ceremony, the owners of the companies Petroperú and Perupetro signed the license contract for the exploitation of hydrocarbons in Lot Z-69 (formerly Lot Z-2B), located in the continental shelf, in front of the provinces of Talara, Paita and Sechura in Piura.
In accordance with Supreme Decree No. 027-2023-EM, published on Monday the 13th in the official newspaper El Peruano, this Thursday the 16th, Petroperú will assume the operations of Lot Z-69 for a period of two years or until the effective date of a new contract for the exploitation of hydrocarbons. In this way, the state oil company reinforces its return to oil and gas production activities, consolidating its vertical integration process and ensuring its sustainability for the benefit of the country.
The ceremony, held at the Miguel Grau plaza in the La Brea - Negritos district, was attended by the head of the Energy and Mines portfolio, Óscar Vera Gargurevich; of the president of Perupetro, Isabel Tafur Marín and of the president of the Board of Directors of Petroperú, Pedro Chira Fernández. Likewise, the president of the Energy and Mines Commission of the Congress of the Republic, Segundo Quiroz Barboza, as well as regional and local authorities of Piura, among others, were present.
The president of the Petroperú Board of Directors, Pedro Chira Fernández, reaffirmed that the state oil company assumes an important commitment by returning to the production activities of Lot Z-69, with the knowledge, experience and responsibility to carry it forward. “We took back this field, which we once held, with efficiency and productivity,” he added.
“Greater production means greater benefits for everyone. Therefore, Petroperú is committed to increasing production, generating greater job opportunities for the north of the country,” he added while pointing out that, as it has always done, the State company will operate in strict compliance with the contract and with social responsibility. and environmental.
For his part, the president of the Energy and Mines Commission of the Congress of the Republic, Segundo Quiroz Barboza, highlighted the importance of the vertical integration process to strengthen the state oil company, which will have an impact on the sustainable development of the country.
In turn, the Minister of Energy and Mines, Óscar Vera Gargurevich, said that this is a historic moment for the country, for the province of Talara and for the Piura region; Because after 30 years the State takes charge of hydrocarbon operations with Lot Z-69, Vera Gargurevich said she is certain that Petroperú will fulfill, by assuming this lot, its role of being the driving force of all economic activities. in the country and - proof of this - was that the state oil company did not stop even with the pandemic. “We trust that Petroperú, with the experience it has, will move forward with Lot Z-69,” he added.
It is important to mention that Petroperú has the engineering and production operations management service for Lot Z-69, whose objective will focus on two main axes that include the operational continuity of the lot and the increase in the production of hydrocarbons and/or reduction of operating costs.
Likewise, to guarantee a safe operation, the State oil company will have the oil and maritime services companies that had been providing services in that lot, as well as the operational personnel that worked in said oil field.
Lot Z-69
The extraction of hydrocarbons in Lot Z-69, which includes more than 70 marine platforms, is an ongoing business that generates the necessary funds to cover the operating expenses it incurs. Currently, the audited oil production is 4,700 barrels per day of oil (BOPD) and natural gas production is 13.8 million standard cubic feet per day (MMPCD).
The destination of the production from Lot Z-69 is the New Talara Refinery (NRT), which is the natural market for all oil producers in the northwest of the country.
Other lots
Petroperú began its progressive return to oil and gas production activities in the northwest lots, in December 2021, with a temporary contract to operate Lot I of the Talara basin, maintaining optimal and sustained production of 500 BOPD of oil and 3.3 MMPCD of natural gas.
Last October, a new license contract was signed to continue operating Lot I and another was signed to operate Lot VI, both for a period of two years, maintaining an average field production of 2,500 BOPD and 7.1 MMPCD, between both. lots.
As part of the temporary operation of these oil blocks, Petroperú has responsibly assumed the commitment to maintain production, as well as carry out the reconditioning of a total of 21 existing wells.
