Petroperú evacuates workers from Station 1 of the ONP due to threat of indefinite strike
Given the forceful measure announced by the native community of San José de Saramuro, located in the district of Urarinas, province and region of Loreto, Petroperú ordered the evacuation of Station 1 of the North Peruvian Pipeline (ONP), to safeguard the integrity of its own personnel. , as well as the contractors that provide services in said industrial facility.
Likewise, the corresponding authorities were notified so that they activate the protection actions and thus protect this facility owned by Petroperú, in which oil is stored, a flammable product that requires permanent supervision and control to avoid contingencies that put in risk to neighboring communities from explosions or fires.
The decision was made after hearing the pronouncements of the communal authorities of San José de Saramuro, who, as previously reported, began an indefinite strike today, Wednesday, October 5, demanding that the State comply with the agreements made to address the needs of your community.
Among their forceful measures, they specified that they will block the transit of all types of vessels through the Marañón River, they demand the withdrawal of the personnel from Station 1 and the cut off of the electric power and other services that Petroperú provides to the community. They also add that -during the strike- Station 1 will be guarded by community members and if they do not proceed with the total vacancy of the facility, they will adopt other forceful measures.
Station 1 is the starting point of the ONP, where it receives crude oil from the private operators of the Amazon oil fields. Currently, 338,000 barrels of crude oil are stored in this facility, which could not be transported due to the paralysis of ONP activities caused by multiple attacks by third parties with cuts in the pipeline that this infrastructure has suffered in recent years. recent months, producing environmental effects that need to be addressed.
