PETROPERU evacuates station personnel due to the threat of oil facilities being taken over
Faced with the threat of force measures against the oil facilities, announced for this Monday, September 28 by the Autonomous Indigenous Peoples of the Dátem del Marañón, PETROPERU agreed to the evacuation of its personnel who are in the North Peruvian Pipeline Stations (ONP).
Although the motivations for this measure of force are due to demands at the different levels of Government, it will be exercised against the oil facilities located in the province of Dátem del Marañón, which is a direct threat to the workers of the PETROPERU Stations, such as Andoas and Morona located in the North Branch and Station 5 of the ONP.
At the same time, residents of the community of Saramurillo have paralyzed the work of unloading barges at Station 1, demanding projects related to basic services from the State. This type of force measures, outside the framework of the law and which PETROPERU rejects, continue to affect the development of transport operations from the Jungle to the Coast and seriously endanger the workers and surrounding communities.
Given these unfortunate events and considering the history of the capture of Station 5 in August, in which the integrity of the workers was endangered and the facilities were affected, it has been decided to evacuate the personnel until it is possible to guarantee the security and integrity of our infrastructure; as well as, make complaints to the corresponding entities.
It is relevant to mention that the operation of the ONP is strategic for the oil activity in the Amazon and basic support for investments and private operations, which benefits thousands of people by generating jobs directly and indirectly, as well as higher income from oil canon. Therefore, the ONP enables economic development with resources that go directly to the producing regions. With these actions that paralyze its activity, great losses are generated for PETROPERU, for the industry and for the State.
PETROPERU, in strict respect of the rule of law and the situation in the country due to the pandemic, invokes the deposition of these actions and the strengthening of spaces for respectful dialogue between the government authorities and the demanding peoples, for the good of the communities of the Amazon and the country.
