PETROPERU denies the information on air pollution in Talara

PETROPERU denies the information disclosed by the Provincial Municipality of Talara, about air pollution in the city due to the activities of our Company.

For that reason, we turn to the public to specify the following:

  1. On August 21, 2018, the Agency for Environmental Assessment and Inspection (OEFA) officially announced the first results of the environmental monitoring of air quality in Talara, which is carried out through the CA-TA-01 station, located the city, 700 meters away from the Talara Refinery.
  2. In the details of the aforementioned report, OEFA states that the SO2 concentrations obtained indicate that "the environmental quality standard for air (ECA) corresponding to 24-hour ranges has not been exceeded". The information evaluated and disseminated through its web portal and different means of communication covered the period between March 27 and beginning of August 2018.
  3. In the same communication, the inspection body specifies that the parameters evaluated are particulate material with a diameter smaller than 10 microns (PM10): sulfur dioxide (SO2), hydrogen sulfide (H2S), carbon monoxide (CO), ozone (O3) ), metals in PM10 and meteorological parameters (pressure, temperature, wind speed and direction).
  4. It is important to point out that the CA-TA-01 monitoring station, located in the area known as the "Huanes" bungalows, also records the impact on the environment generated by other pollution sources such as the vehicle fleet, commerces, industry and other activities that are carried out in the area of the Pariñas district.
  5. PETROPERU, following its Integrated Quality Management Policy for Environment, Safety and Health at Work, has implemented an Environmental Management Plan in Talara that contemplates the periodic execution of environmental monitoring of air quality and emissions in different points of Refinery Talara, which are reported to OEFA in a timely manner.
  6. In all the monitored stations of the Talara Refinery, the values obtained for particulate material, sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides meet the maximum permissible limits and environmental quality standards for gaseous and particulate emissions from the activities of the hydrocarbons subsector.
  7. PETROPERU reiterates its commitment to the care of the environment and the development of Talara. Likewise, it expresses its willingness to keep the Talara community informed in a timely and transparent manner about the actions carried out in this province.
