As part of the Capacity Building Project aimed at artisanal fishermen of Talara, PETROPERÚ along with its strategic partners the University of Piura (UDEP) and the National Program for Innovation in Fisheries and Aquaculture (PNIPA), delivered a work module composed of a stainless steel counter and a vacuum packaging machine, to start a pilot plan for the commercialization of marine products, ensuring health and quality criteria.

In this way, seafarers will be able to carry out the packaging, packing and packing process that, together with an adequate cold chain and commercialization, will allow them a more fair and advantageous direct trade.

The equipment delivered is part of the initiative "Improving the quality of services provided by artisanal fishermen in the province of Talara, through innovations and technical assistance in packaging, packing and packing systems for hydrobiological products", which included In addition, a technical and theoretical training for 25 fishermen (including 10 women), in aspects of commercial organization, added value to their marine products and vacuum packaging system.

The President of the Artisan Fishermen's Guild of Puerto San Pedro de Talara, Sixto Panta Ramírez; the representative of the University of Piura, Paúl Guerrero Vargas and on behalf of PETROPERÚ, José Carlos Cueva Andaluz, who highlighted the acceptance of the initiative by the union, the opportunity to start a direct trade of their products and the commitment to constant accompaniment to this important economic sector of Talara.

In this sense, the project and the implementation of the pilot for the commercialization of vacuum-packed products opens up an attractive business unit for artisanal fishermen. "We are able to commercialize the best of our fishing, make agreements with municipalities, supply centers and make a very important leap as a social organization," said Sixto Panta.

In this way, and in line with its Social Management Plan, PETROPERÚ reaffirms its commitment to support the economic sectors of the province, specifically the artisanal fishing of Talara, from an articulating role between the State, the private sector and the populations in its area of influence.

Projects in favor of fishing

The project "Improving the quality of services provided by artisanal fishermen in the province of Talara, through innovations and technical assistance in packaging, packing and packing systems for hydrobiological products" is part of the four proposals presented to the PNIPA by PETROPERÚ in strategic alliance with the Puerto San Pedro Artisan Fishermen's Guild, Antenor Orrego Private University (UPAO), UDEP and Management Engineering and Technology Service EIRL (MET Peru).

The four projects had a social investment of more than 500 thousand soles, of which 20% was covered by PETROPERÚ, as a collaborating entity. 80% of the remaining budget came from World Bank funds, through the PNIPA Competitive Fund, in the SEREX modality.
