PETROPERU controls leak at km 221.5
PETROPERÚ addresses the public opinión to inform of the following:
- With regards to the contingency that occurred on November 7 at Km 221.5 of the North Branch Pipeline (ORN), the cause of the incident could not be confirmed due to the fact that the Community of Chapis prevents the continuation of pipeline repair work, demanding "Payments for pollution rights", "payments for 40 years of servitude", 200 soles of wages and payments to leaders.
- Given this situation, yesterday personnel of the National Police of Peru and the Prosecutor's Office entered the area to verify the work pause. Likewise, the corresponding complaints have been made and notified to the oversight bodies.
- As reported, in compliance with the Contingency Plan, PETROPERU's specialized personnel and contractors have controlled the leak and confined the crude, which did not impact any watercourse.
- PETROPERU invokes the Community of Chapis to stop its measure of force and provide the facilities that allow us to continue with the work of repairing the damage and cleaning the affected area. Any delay in the rapid execution of these actions seriously endangers the health of neighboring communities and the environment
