Petroperú controlled the crude oil leakage in the fifth attack on the North Peruvian Pipeline in 2023
Today, Tuesday, May 30, a new crude oil leak caused by third parties was reported at kilometer 392+483 of Section II of the North Peruvian Pipeline (ONP), near the Kusumatak native community, located in the Santa María district of It snows, Condorcanqui province, in Amazonas. This new event is close to the recent contingency also caused intentionally.
Petroperú immediately dispatched personnel with the necessary equipment, who, as part of the first actions of the Contingency Plan, placed a metal clip to contain the leak and have installed containment barriers to prevent further spread of the hydrocarbon in the area.
According to the first findings identified by the company's personnel and contractors, a perforation has been found in the pipeline caused by third parties, who would have used mechanical tools.
Petroperú has been reporting the events within the period mandated by the regulations in force to the Supervisory Body for Investment in Energy and Mining (Osinergmin), to the Environmental Evaluation and Oversight Body (OEFA) and presenting the corresponding complaint to the Public Ministry.
With this there are already five attacks on the ONP pipeline so far this year, the previous ones were registered at kilometers 390+210, 399+861, 400+818 and 358+835, for which Petroperú reiterates the cessation immediate response to these attacks that threaten the environment and communities, damaging the integrity of this National Critical Asset.
In addition, the company asks the authorities for the necessary speed in the investigation processes to find those responsible for these criminal acts against the ONP, which should be protected to guarantee a safe and continuous operation of the transportation of hydrocarbons.
