Petroperú controlled a leak in Lot Z-69
Petroperú controlled the oil leak in one of the production lines of Lot Z-69, located in the district of El Alto, province of Talara, Piura region, which was detected on the morning of Tuesday, July 30, during the development of inspection work at sea.
As part of its Contingency Plan, the company carried out the first response activities, which included —among others— the repair of the production line, as well as the deployment of absorbent barriers for the respective containment and the subsequent cleaning of the affected area, which has allowed the recovery of all the iridescence present in the sea and the removal of the impacted material.
It is worth mentioning that the event has been reported to the Environmental Assessment and Oversight Agency (OEFA) and the causes are being investigated.
It is important to note that the investigation and the respective clean-up work at sea carried out to address it are being carried out in parallel and independently of the clean-up actions on the Peña Negra coastline, which are being led by personnel from the Talara Harbor Master's Office, due to the activation of the Local Contingency Plan as a result of the detection of another affectation, which would not be linked to the operational activities of Petroperú.
As recalled, in November 2023, Petroperú took over the operation (for two years) of Lot Z-69 in order to provide continuity, after completing the 30-year operations contract with its previous operator, highlighting the critical condition in which Petroperú received the assets. However, the company has been deploying its maximum efforts to keep the different marine infrastructures operational and, in this line, after identifying the serious state of integrity of the platforms, it has been executing a repair program, the progress of which is permanently reported to the corresponding authorities.
