Petroperú controlled a crude oil leak caused by intentional cutting in the North Peruvian Pipeline
Petroperú reported yesterday a hydrocarbon outcrop at kilometer 372+090 of Section II of the North Peruvian Pipeline (ONP), near the native community Tayunsa, located in the Nieva district, Condorcanqui province, Amazonas region, caused by a cut made by third parties with a mechanical tool.
The Contingency Plan was immediately activated, and operations and maintenance personnel were mobilized to the area, who brought tools, materials and equipment for containment, managing to identify the point of impact and place a bolted clip that allowed the leak to be contained, as well as containment barriers that prevented the expansion of crude oil.
The oil company continues to maintain constant dialogue with the authorities of the Tayunsa native community to continue with the cleaning and recovery work of the crude oil in the shortest possible time. In addition, on-site security services have been coordinated.
Likewise, the proper entities have been informed of this fact, such as the Condorcanqui Prosecutor's Office, the Supervisory Body for Investment in Energy and Mining (Osinergmin), the National Police of Peru and the Environmental Assessment and Supervision Body (OEFA).
It should be noted that the valve located at km 371+586 was closed due to other events that occurred in January and February of this year. In addition, the review carried out on the data from the internal inspection of the pipeline determined that there are no anomalies due to loss of thickness, geometric or relevant surges.
It is important to note that Section II of the ONP has been on scheduled shutdown since December 29, 2023, due to low crude oil inventories at Station 5.
