Petroperú contains a crude oil leak generated by a new intentional cut to the Pipeline

Today a new intentional cut caused by third parties was reported at kilometer 400 of Section II of the North Peruvian Pipeline (ONP), located in the Imaza district, Bagua province, in the Amazonas region. The attack would have been carried out with a mechanical tool.

Faced with this situation, Petroperú immediately activated its Contingency Plan to deal with the incident and dispatched operations, maintenance, security and environmental personnel to the area, provided with hydrocarbon containment tools, materials and equipment.

As part of the first measures adopted, the valves located at kilometers 406 and 372 of Section II were closed and containment barriers were placed to prevent the crude from expanding. In addition, a bolted clip is being placed to secure the duct. It should be noted that the operation of Section II has been paralyzed since June 7, 2022 due to contingencies that occurred in Section I.

Likewise, the company is informing the competent authorities, such as the Agency for Environmental Evaluation and Control (OEFA), the Supervisory Agency for Investment in Energy and Mining (Osinergmin), the National Police of Peru and the Specialized Prosecutor for Environmental Matters (FEMA) of Bagua to make the corresponding fiscal verification. In addition, the respective complaint will be made before the Condorcanqui Provincial Criminal Prosecutor's Office.

Petroperú reiterates its call to cease these attacks against the ONP, considered a Critical National Asset, and requests the corresponding authorities to expedite the investigations to identify and punish those responsible for this criminal act that causes serious impacts on the environment and neighboring communities.
