Petroperú contained crude oil leak in North Branch of the North Peruvian Pipeline
Upon learning of the presence of crude oil at kilometer 177+670 of the North Branch of the North Peruvian Pipeline (ONP), in the Morona district, Datem del Marañón province of the Loreto region, Petroperú ordered the first response actions contemplated in the Contingencies, in compliance with the current regulatory framework.
Although the preliminary repair work was carried out with the placement of a metal staple, Petroperú needs to continue with the work of recovering the spilled crude, cleaning and remediation, following the biosafety protocol provided for in the face of the health emergency by COVID-19.
In this sense, Petroperú will coordinate with the population and its communal authorities so that they allow the entry of the team that was transferred to the place with the tools, materials and containment barriers, and they can continue carrying out the necessary operational tasks.
As recalled, the North Branch, which has its confluence point with the ONP at Station 5 in the Saramiriza area, has not restarted pumping operations since February 2020; while Section I has been paralyzed since February of this year.
This event has been reported to the inspection bodies, in accordance with the provisions of the law, while the corresponding investigations are carried out to determine the cause of the leak.
