PETROPERÚ carries out socio-environmental monitoring in Conchán Refinery
The meeting of the Participative Socio-Environmental Monitoring Committee of the Conchán Refinery was held, with the participation of representatives of the human settlements neighboring that PETROPERU plant, in the south of Metropolitan Lima.
This Committee meets approximately every 15 days and its members are trained and guided by the Futuro Sostenible consultancy. One of its axes of interest has been the treatment of solid waste, on which they have also begun to advocate with their local authorities.
On the other hand, part of the process of strengthening this Committee, involves the promotion and support for the participation of its members in events that contribute to expand their knowledge. Along these lines, in June of this year, its participation in two important events was supported and attended: the "Seminar on Air Quality in the Hydrocarbons Sector" (organized by the SPE) and the "Participatory Environmental Governance: Gender and Transparency in the Participatory Environmental Monitoring Committees "(organized by the UNDP), on June 8 and 19 respectively.
Both events have meant important learning and dialogue spaces, with respect to the topics of their interest and which allows them to strengthen their knowledge.
Conchán Refinery has been carrying out a sustained work since 2017 regarding transparency in its environmental management. Since that year, PETROPERU promoted the creation of this instance of relationship and interaction with its neighbors in the districts of Lurin and Villa El Salvador.
These actions have two objectives. The first is to strengthen the relationship of trust that the Company has with the community through the availability of information regarding the results of its monitoring of air quality and gas emissions and demonstrate an openness to dialogue on these issues. While the second objective is to optimize the continuous improvement of its operations.
