PETROPERU carries out fruitfull dialogue with the Andoas communities

A commission composed of representatives of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM), Ministry of Energy and Mines, PETROPERU, the National Program of Rural Sanitation (PNSR) and the General Directorate of Environmental Health (DIGESA) arrived on Friday, June 8 to the locality of Andoas in response to the concerns of the settlers by the presence of oily spots in the Pastaza river detected the past 25 of May; originated by a fissure in the Northern Branch Pipeline (ORN), which was caused by an unusual flood of the Pastaza River.

The purpose was to inform the actions that PETROPERU has been developing to attend the aforementioned event occurred at Km 12 of the ORN and coordinate the attention to the orders of 17 communities in the area, as well as the repair, cleaning and remediation of the pipeline, and the deployment of social support actions during the contingency.

After two days of work, the main agreements ratified the following actions in process:

  1. Preventive delivery of bottled drinking water to the communities for 90 days and often weekly; for which PETROPERU had already started the transfer of 14,500 boxes of bottled water to the area.
  2. Preventive medical campaign in these communities for 15 days by 3 itinerant brigades (with a total of 15 health professionals) and delivery of up to 800 kilos of medicines.
  3. Informative talks about the company's social management plan, upcoming actions and information on cleaning and subsequent remediation.
  4. Delivery of school supplies to schools in the area, to which the completion of educational leveling courses has been added.
  5. Local personnel will be hired for the repair, cleaning and remediation work in the area.

Regardless of this, PETROPERÚ has provided integral logistical support to the technical evaluation of the water quality provided by the Potable Water Treatment Plants (PTAP) to the Andoas district, under the responsibility of a specialized team of the PNSR and DIGESA. Other pending issues will be discussed at a next meeting scheduled for July 17.

As can be recalled, having detected oily spots in the Pastaza River on May 25, PETROPERU immediately activated the Contingency Plan, suspended the pumping and closed the valves on both banks of the sub fluvial junction of the ORN with that river. Since that date no oil spots have been observed in said river.

PETROPERU will continue to report the results of the activities it carries out in the area.
