PETROPERU carries out Educational Fair in Iquitos

The Pedagogical Fair of the Quality Schools program was held in the community of Santo Tomás, in Iquitos. This program is carried out by PETROPERU in partnership with the Cayetano Heredia University and the Loreto Educational Management Unit, and seeks to reinforce the teaching and learning of children at the primary level in the areas of Communication and Mathematics, through the training of teachers and directors of the 11 communities surrounding the Iquitos Refinery.

The program began in March of this year, will last for 3 years and includes the permanent evaluation of 26 teachers, 11 directors and 566 students. Likewise, the program stimulates -in some activities- the accompaniment of parents.

"Our children feel proud when parents accompany them in the educational process, for that I thank Petroperu infinitely for bringing this program to the schools of our communities, I am sure that the result of this program will give us good results", were the words of Merli Huaymana, Communal President of Santo Tomás, during the inauguration ceremony.

The event allowed demonstrating the level of advancement of students in the areas of mathematics and communications. Educators and students from the El Milagro, Santa Clara I and III communities, Santa Clotilde, Centro Arenal, Independencia, Astoria and Santo Tomas participated. Similar activities were previously carried out in Barrio Florido, Santa Clara II and Costanera.

The Sub Manager of Selva Refining, Eng. Oscar Vera, expressed his satisfaction to see the progress that the children are having, encouraging teachers to continue training hard to have in the future the professionals that Iquitos requires.

This program is part of the activities foreseen in PETROPERU's Social Management Plan, which reaffirms the Company's commitment to improving the quality of education in the communities and localities neighboring its operations.
