PETROPERU carried out craftmanship workshops in Iquitos
As part of the capacity-building activities, PETROPERU provided workshops on “Fabric in Chambira Fiber” and “Carving in Balsa Wood” aimed at the residents of the communities near Iquitos Refinery.
A total of 5 communities participated in these trainings, held in Santo Tomás, Santa Clotilde and Independencia, in Fibra de Chambira; while in Santa Clara Zone II and Santa Clara Zone III they were in Raft Wood Carving.
During the closing of the workshops there was the presence of the Selva Refining Manager, Martín Chancafe Gray, who congratulated all the participants and motivated them to continue perfecting this trade, which represents an economic alternative for their families.
The closing ceremonies of these workshops, which benefited more than a hundred residents, were held in the community of Santo Tomás, for Fiber Weaving of Chambira, and Santa Clara II for Carving in Balsa Wood.
In this way, PETROPERU reaffirms its commitment to strengthening capacities to improve the quality of local artisanal production and contribute to the increase of its own income in sustainable activities for communities; which, at the same time, helps spread the Amazonian culture.
These activities are carried out within the framework of the Social Management Plan of the Company, which seeks to raise the quality of life in neighboring populations to its operations.
