PETROPERU carried out Chambira weaving workshop in Iquitos
As part of its social responsibility activities, PETROPERÚ held a Fabric Workshop in Fibra Vegetal de Chambira aimed at the residents of the Independencia community, near the Iquitos Refinery pipeline.
This activity is part of a training program launched several years ago that seeks to improve the technique in the fiber fabric of the "chambira" palm tree, to produce bags, backpacks, key chains, cellphone holders, among other products in high demand in the artisanal market and by the tourists that visit this town located on the banks of the Amazon River.
These trainings represent an economic alternative for the men and women who participate in this activity because the inputs (fiber and dyes) are from the area and have acceptable demand. In addition, in the community there is a "Tourist Lookout" that motivates the presence of visitors every day.
This way, PETROPERU reaffirms its commitment to strengthening capacities to improve the quality of local artisanal production and contribute to the increase in the generation of its own income in sustainable activities and, at the same time, disseminates the Amazonian culture.
