PETROPERU calls on Saramurillo strikers to immediately remove common pot next to highly flammable barge
- Starting yesterday, February 4, 2019, at approximately 4:40 p.m., a group of villagers from the town of Saramurillo, Loreto region, stopped a convoy consisting of three PETROPERU barges that sailed from Yurimaguas to Iquitos along the Marañón River.
- The ships remain retained, while PETROPERU has evacuated its personnel from Station 1 of the North Peruvian Pipeline through security measures.
- In this context, the striking settlers of Saramurillo have installed a common pot a few meters from the boat that contains a highly flammable fuel (97 octane cracked naphtha) so that a serious loss could occur.
- PETROPERU calls on the strikers to immediately withdraw their common pot from the vicinity of the barge for reasons of their own safety.
- Likewise, it urges them to leave aside their measure of force, since they are putting in serious danger the life and health of the retained personnel, as well as that of themselves.
- PETROPERU and the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM) have always expressed their willingness to dialogue with all the communities and organizations native to the Amazon; what is proved by the dialogue tables and work meetings that are being held, including one in Nauta today and tomorrow.
