Petroperú calls for dialogue with the native community of Cuninico

Petroperú regrets that the claims of the communities lead to the violation of the rights of third parties by preventing their free movement, as well as the entry of personnel to carry out cleaning and remediation work in the area affected by the contingency of kilometer 42 + 092 of Section I of the Norperuano Pipeline (ONP), in the district of Urarinas, Loreto, the same one that was caused by an intentional cut as verified by the authorities.

As can be recalled, the State has declared an Environmental Emergency (DEA) in the geographical areas of Cuninico, Urarinas and Parinari through Ministerial Resolutions 187-2022-MINAM and 225-2022-MINAM, as well as the Immediate Action Plan and of Short Term for the attention of this. The regulation contemplates the execution of actions from the various government sectors, including cleaning and remediation activities by Petroperú.

Likewise, the greatest efforts have been made to have a sustained dialogue with the communal authorities of the different localities affected by the environmental contingency, participating in various meetings with the leaders of the protest. To date, an upcoming meeting is being coordinated with the leaders so that the State can implement various proposals, including water and sanitation projects that are included in the Loreto Gap Closure Plan, which already have financing. passed.

In the same way, a commitment that Petroperú has been executing is the delivery of water and food to eleven communities that are considered affected by the oil spill, including Cuninico. Until the end of October, before the blockade of the Marañon River, nearly 9,000 packages of food and 18,000 20-liter boxes of water have been delivered. Unfortunately, due to the force measure, these actions have also been suspended.

In this sense, it urges the authorities and community leaders of Cuninico to put an end to their extreme actions and continue with the dialogue, as well as to allow free transit and environmental cleanup and remediation work in a climate of tranquility and social peace that guarantees the integrity of all citizens, within the framework of respect for human rights, in order to avoid a greater impact on communities and the quality of ecosystems.

As can be recalled, Petroperú has requested the authorities to carry out the corresponding investigations to identify those responsible for this and other proven attacks on the ONP, the same ones that have generated contingencies that threaten this National Critical Asset, the communities and the environment.
