Petroperú calls for an end to acts of vandalism against the North Peruvian Pipeline
This morning, a group of protesters approached the valve at kilometer 371 of the North Peruvian Pipeline (ONP), near the Nieva bridge, in the province of Condorcanqui, Amazonas region, with the intention of manipulating it.
Likewise, another group of protesters has been attacking the ONP pipeline infrastructure at kilometer 440, Inayo town, Imaza district, Bagua province. Simultaneously they set fire to the surrounding areas, a situation that could lead to an explosion or oil spill with serious consequences for nearby communities.
Given the unfortunate events described, Petroperú makes an urgent call to stop these acts of vandalism that are only putting the community and the protesters themselves in serious danger.
It should be noted that both attacks, intentionally caused by strangers, have already been brought to the attention of the Nieva and Chiriaco Police Station, as well as the Amazonas Police Region, alerting in both cases about the danger to which the nearby population.
Petroperú reiterates that the ONP is a Critical National Asset that must be protected to guarantee a safe and sustained operation of the transportation of hydrocarbons, but above all to safeguard the integrity of people and care for the environment.
