PETROPERU belies about a possible spilt in Pucara

PETROPERU belies about a possible crude oil spilt in the Peruvian Oil Pipeline near  the Pucara community located in the province of Jaen, region of Cajamarca. The work done at the  611 KM of the Peruvian Oil Pipeline is a programmed corrective maintenance for the current year.

This plan includes maintenance work for seven different areas of the Peruvian Oil Pipeline and is taken place during the months of February and March between the 608 - 612 KM. It operates depending on the reports of the pipe’s inspection. They are scanned by a tool called the “raspatubo inteligente” (smart duct scrapper) that helps identifying the parts of the pipe that require maintenance.

This process operates on a rice field whom owner had been previously contacted and had given the correspondent permission to make use of the field.

During the maintenance, the crude oil pumping is temporarily suspended. Then, it is necessary to extract all the crude oil from the inside of the pipes before replacing or strengthening any damaged parts of the pipe. The extracted hydrocarbon is stored in a special predesigned cesspit built to maintain it, and removed of the area afterwards.

On February 18th, the full repairing of the pipe was finished, rehabilitating the conditions to reinitiate the pumping. Currently, the cleaning of the area and the restoration of the cesspit, that was used to store the crude oil during the maintenance, is taken place. The programmed corrective maintenance will continue for the following days.

It is important to point out that this controlled maintenance does no affect any water stream because it is held in places already worked on and near to the Pucara community.

PETROPERU ratifies its compromise with the preservation of the environment and operates maintenance programs in the Peruvian Oil Pipeline to prevent and solve any possible incidents.
