PETROPERU begins repairs at km 193 of the Northern Branch of the North Peruvian Pipeline
PETROPERU began the transfer of personnel and equipment to Km 193 of the North Branch Pipeline (ORN) today, for the repair of the pipeline after the agreements reached with the community of Mayuriaga, after a fruitful day of dialogue held yesterday and led by the President of the Council of Ministers, César Villanueva and made up of the Minister of Energy and Mines, Francisco Ísmodes; senior officials of the National Government, the Regional Governor of Loreto, Elisbán Ochoa; Congressman Jorge Meléndez and officials of PETROPERU.
A technical team of the state oil company has moved to the area affected by the cut of the pipe on November 27, 2018, managing to control and plug the leak at the cutoff point; likewise, carry out a technical evaluation to carry out the cleaning and environmental remediation work, after the community of Mayuriaga agreed to allow its repair and committed to respecting and caring for the infrastructure of the ONP in its adjoining area.
It should be noted that PETROPERU, in compliance with its social management practices, will not hire personnel from the affected area for remediation work because it is a spill caused by third parties.
The case of the Clearing Program and Early Warning System that applies to all the native communities neighboring the Norperuano Pipeline is entirely different, of which Mayuriaga is an integral part. Through this program, sustainable employment is provided in the work of clearing weeds and vegetation in the right-of-way of the North Peruvian Pipeline, as well as monitoring it. It is a rotating system that includes the members of the community, with gender quota, labor benefits and advice for the formalization of their companies and the communities themselves.
PETROPERU will continue to report on the progress made in the prompt repair of the ORN, and is committed to making its best efforts to carry out the cleaning and environmental remediation work in the shortest possible time, in order to restore the environment to its normal conditions.
