PETROPERU and UNAP will implement a waste management project in amazon communities

PETROPERÚ and the National University of the Peruvian Amazon (UNAP) will launch the project callled "Implementation of healthy living spaces through the handling and management of solid waste in the Populated Center of Barrio Florido and the Native Community of Santo Tomás", located in the district of Punchana, Maynas province, in the Loreto region.

The objective of this project is to train new agents of change, committed to improving their surroundings, landscape scenarios and internalizing the importance of good social and environmental practices. For this, the population will be taught the techniques for the treatment of solid waste, from its generation to its elimination or reuse, with which the communities will maintain a healthier environment and improve their quality of life.

With this strategic alliance between PETROPERÚ and UNAP, it will also be possible to increase the environmental, social and sustainable community tourism benefits in the localities involved. In addition, participating children, youth and adults will be able to develop and strengthen their social and cognitive skills.

UNAP will participate with a multidisciplinary team made up of professionals and students from the careers of Chemical Engineering, Agronomy, Environmental Management, Biological Sciences and Educational Sciences and Humanities, who, together with the staff of the Social Management area of the Iquitos Refinery in PETROPERÚ, will carry out the project.

In this way, the state company promotes care for health and the environment in its areas of direct influence, ensuring the well-being and respect for the environment of its neighboring communities.
