Petroperú and Tunduza community authorities reached agreements to attend contingencies
After a meeting between Petroperú and the authorities of the Tunduza native community, agreements were reached to address the contingency registered on May 15 at kilometer 358+835 of Section II of the North Peruvian Pipeline (ONP), in the Nieva district, Condorcanqui province, Amazonas region.
After repeated requests by Petroperú to authorize the entry of personnel to carry out containment and cleaning work, today agreements were reached that will allow the placement of the clip to contain the leak and verify the impact in the area, as well as the presence of the competent authorities, such as the Supervisory Agency for Investment in Energy and Mining (Osinergmin), the Environmental Assessment and Enforcement Agency (OEFA), the environmental prosecutor's office, among others.
From the first day of reporting the event, Petroperú activated its Contingency Plan, displacing its own personnel and contractors with materials and equipment to carry out first response tasks, such as the placement of containment barriers and the installation of a clamp to contain the oil leak, but the refusal of the population delayed the timely intervention.
Petroperú welcomes the willingness of the population of Tunduza to resume the dialogue that has allowed the contingency to be addressed and to intervene in the impacted area as soon as possible, to safeguard the well-being of the surrounding communities. It is important to specify that Section II has been paralyzed since June 7, 2022, due to low crude oil inventories at Station 5, due to the stoppage of pumping due to contingencies that occurred in Section I.
In recent years, the ONP has suffered a series of attacks by not yet identified third parties. So far in 2023, there have been three intentional cuts in the areas near kilometers 390+210, 399+861 and 400+818, which make up Section II, for which we ask the authorities to ensure the integrity of this National Critical Asset.
