PETROPERU and the community of Chapis reached an agreement

Comuneros open the access to Station 5 of the North Peruvian Pipeline and allow re-initiation of environmental remediation, thanks to dialogue led by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM).
PETROPERU and the community of Chapis reached an agreement

After reaching agreements with the leaders of the community of Chapis, in the district of Manseriche, Datem del Marañón province, Loreto, the release of access was achieved to the facilities of Station 5 of the North Peruvian Pipeline (ONP), which had been blocked by residents of that community since December 5.

The agreements came after several days of dialogue between the multisectoral commission, (led by representatives of the PCM and integrated by the Ministry of Energy and Mines and PETROPERU) and leaders of the community of Chapis. In the signed minutes, the leaders undertake not to carry out actions that could damage PETROPERU's assets and allow the completion of the remediation activities at Km 221 of the North Branch Pipeline (ORN).

Within the framework of the commitments assumed by PETROPERU, in the next few days a community meeting will be held with the company Kanay, in charge of the remediation work, to evaluate and report on the work that remains to be completed at Km. 221 of the ORN.

PETROPERU will integrate the community to the Early Warning and Scouring Program that it implements along the North Peruvian Pipeline with all its surrounding communities. This program includes a participatory monitoring of the Pipeline with constant training, in which the community members are employed in the clearing service of the right of way with permanent work and a rotating system so that all the members of the community participate, with a gender quota and other benefits.

This way, the Company and the community reaffirmed their commitment to maintain dialogue as the main mechanism for relations, in the interest of developing the region and the country.
