Operative and preventive actions continue after oily stains in the Pastaza river
Regarding the presence of oily spots on the Pastaza River, near Km. 12 of the North Branch Pipeline (ORN), near the district of Andoas, Datem del Marañón province, Loreto region, detected on May 25, PETROPERU informs public opinion what:
- Regarding the waste found in some palisades in the area, PETROPERU has hired the company Kanay Seché Group, which has been executing the immediate cleaning. It should be noted that no new oil spots have been identified in the Pastaza River.
- However, and in the face of the community's concern, PETROPERU has decided in a preventive manner from the date of the event and for the duration of the investigation, to share the water consumed at the Andoas Station with the communities near the incident. In this way, the Company will supply the neighboring communities with drinking water from the Station for the consumption of the population.
- As mentioned before, in a week or so -and depending on the weather conditions- the results of the bathymetric study with 3D technology will be produced by the Costa Rican company MATECH, in order to rule out the existence of any possible microcracks in the pipeline along the the subfluvial crossing of the ORN with the Pastaza River, due to the exceptional flooding of the river.
PETROPERU will continue to report the results of the activities aimed at determining the origin of the event and take the necessary actions to safeguard the safety of the surrounding communities and the protection of the environment.
