Operation of the Northern Branch of the North Peruvian Pipeline resumes
PETROPERU resumed this afternoon the operations of the North Branch of the North Peruvian Pipeline (ONP), at the conclusion of the repair and testing work carried out at km 193 of the pipeline, where specialized personnel and equipment travelled after the agreements reached with the community of Mayuriaga, located in the district of Morona, Loreto region. It should be noted that, to verify the repair work, there was the presence of technicians of the Supervisory Body of Investment in Energy and Mining (OSINERGMIN).
As can be remembered, the area was affected by the cutting of the pipeline on November 27, 2018. Since that date several rounds of negotiations were held, led by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM), the Ministry of Energy and Mines and PETROPERU, to ensure that community leaders allow the repair of the pipeline; which happened on February 27. Immediately, and in application of its Contingency Plan, a PETROPERU technical team repaired the pipeline at the cut point and began the technical evaluation to carry out the environmental cleanup and remediation actions.
It should be noted that PETROPERU, in compliance with its social management policies, will not hire personnel from the affected area for environmental remediation work because it is a spill caused by third parties. Instead, it will apply its Clearing Program and Early Warning System that applies to all the native communities neighboring the ONP, of which the community of Mayuriaga is an integral part.
PETROPERU has been making its greatest efforts to carry out the work of recovering the oil, cleaning the area and doing environmental remediation in the shortest possible time, in order to restore the environment to its usual conditions.
