Oil Pipeline suffers new attack with six cuts in the pipeline

PETROPERÚ addresses the public opinion to inform the following:

  1. Early today, the existence of six new cuts due to third-party actions was verified at kilometer 235 of Section I of the North Peruvian Pipeline (ONP), adding a new contingency that put neighboring populations and the environment at risk. The incident occurred in the vicinity of the Adelino Ribera community in the Barranca district, Datem del Marañón province, Loreto Region.
  2. Despite the geographical difficulties of the Amazon, PETROPERÚ personnel arrived in the area and worked throughout the morning, temporarily blocking the pipeline, as well as placing barriers to prevent the crude oil from expanding and remaining contained in the flotation channel/ containment, in accordance with its Contingency Plan. Likewise, it has been making the corresponding complaints, as well as the reports to the supervisory entities.
  3. Since February 13, Section I of the ONP has been prevented from resuming its crude oil transport activity and has been paralyzed in order to attend to these contingencies, which add up to a total of nine events in the last seven months, which has meant 43 outages caused by third party actions.
  4. PETROPERÚ must allocate significant economic resources to carry out contingency control, cleaning, environmental remediation and definitive repair work on the pipeline in order to guarantee the safe transportation of hydrocarbon production, as well as the well-being of the communities and the care of the environment.
  5. Given the unfortunate events described, PETROPERÚ urges the presence of the corresponding authorities and institutions for the protection of this strategic infrastructure, a National Critical Asset that drives the development of the Amazon and the country.
