North Peruvian Pipeline suffers two new intentional cuts in the Loreto region
Two new intentional cuts were registered on Monday, January 2, in the progressive kilometers 43+106 and kilometer 43+499 of Section I of the North Peruvian Pipeline (ONP), in the native community of Cuninico, district of Urarinas, province and region of Loreto.
After verifying the fact during the ground patrol, the Contingency Plan was activated, mobilizing operating and maintenance personnel to the area to plug the pipe and place the respective containment barriers, which has allowed the traces of hydrocarbons not to expand. It should be noted that the valve located at kilometer 75 of Section I remains closed, given that since February 13, 2022 this section has been paralyzed due to the registered contingencies.
Within the corresponding deadlines, Petroperú reported the fact to the Public Ministry, the Supervisory Body for Investment in Energy and Mining (Osinergmin) and the Environmental Evaluation and Oversight Body (OEFA). Likewise, it has been coordinating with the Peruvian National Police (PNP) to verify the fact.
Petroperú reiterates the call to stop these attacks that not only impact the environment but also the communities and their surroundings. From December 2021 to date, there have already been 15 attacks with more than 50 intentional cuts, most of which have been registered in Section I.
Likewise, it requests the authorities to expedite the investigation processes to find those responsible for these criminal acts that threaten the development of the Amazon and the country.
