North Peruvian Pipeline station seized and 10 workers kidnapped
PETROPERÚ addresses public opinion to report the following:
- Yesterday, Friday, March 12, a group of around 100 people from the Fernando Rosas community took over the Morona Station of the North Peruvian Pipeline, located in the Morona district, Datem del Marañón province, Loreto region.
- The occupants have presented a list of requests of a social nature, the majority directed to sectors of the State and have demanded the presence of a High Level Commission to attend to their demands.
- Simultaneously, they have detained 10 workers, 4 from PETROPERÚ and 6 from contractors, they have kept them out in the open all night and they were not allowed to feed until today, presenting several of them symptoms of dehydration due to the elapsed time. Likewise, there is a high risk of contagion by Covid as basic health protocols are not maintained by the occupants. Meanwhile communication with the Station is precarious.
- Likewise, they have demanded that the National Police not intervene, otherwise they would take actions of force against the facilities and the detained personnel.
- PETROPERÚ invokes the occupants of the Station to guarantee the life and safety of the kidnapped persons and to stop the threats against them.
- PETROPERÚ has reported the situation to the competent State entities for what is requested in the list of claims, as well as to the bodies in charge of public security so that they deal with this situation with the required speed.
- Finally, we urge the occupiers to release the retained personnel and resume the path of dialogue in a climate of peace and harmony, especially considering that their demands are considered in the agreements to close social gaps.
We will continue to report on the evolution of this serious situation.
