North Peruvian Pipeline faces second intentional cut so far this year

The Norperuano Pipeline (ONP) once again suffered a cut in the pipe, at km 24+320 of Section I, geographically located in the Urarinas district of the Loreto region. This is the second event of this type faced by this critical national asset this year.

When a drop in the discharge pressure of Station I of the ONP was detected, PETROPERÚ activated the Contingency Plan and ordered various actions that include the closure of the valve located at km 75 of Section I, as well as the return of the crude oil contained in the pipeline, to Station 1 to reduce pressure.

PETROPERÚ personnel and contractors were also mobilized to the area for timely intervention in the event of finding any damage to the pipeline. All these actions are carried out considering the protocol expected in the face of the health emergency that is currently being faced.

Likewise, land, air and river patrolling tasks were carried out, which made it possible to detect, at km 24+320, a cut similar to others caused intentionally by third parties. As a first action, the cut was sealed to proceed with the repair of the pipe.

PETROPERÚ has arranged for patrolling activities to continue in the area in order to identify additional damage in other sectors of the ONP pipeline.

The first outage occurred on 01.20.2022 at km 59+131, in the Nueva Alianza community of the same Urarinas district. It should be noted that Section I has been stopped since 02.13.2022 due to work being carried out on the pipeline.

PETROPERÚ, proceeded to report the latest event to the corresponding supervisory entities.
