North Branch Pipeline restarts operations
PETROPERU reports that today, 08.30.2018 the oil pumping from Lot 192 was restarted by the North Branch (ORN) of the North Peruvian Pipeline, having satisfactorily completed the rehabilitation of the pipe sector of 16 inches in diameter that crosses below the Pastaza River, at Km. 12 of the ORN and after having the favorable technical opinion of Osinergmin.
As can be remembered, an extraordinary flood of the flow of the Pastaza River, as a result of intense rains in the neighboring country of Ecuador and in the area, originated a fissure in the pipeline.
The rehabilitation of the affected sector consisted of the installation of four flexible pipes of high resistance of 4 inches in diameter inside the original pipe. For this purpose, highly specialized personnel and 2,400 meters of flexible pipe manufactured to order in Houston-USA were employed.
Likewise, the specialized cleaning and environmental remediation service of the affected areas, which was contracted with an international company, is in its final phase.
During the development of the rehabilitation works, a permanent dialogue has been maintained with the communities of the area, whose residents were treated preventively with bottled water, food and medical campaigns; and hired as unskilled labor, mainly in the works of environmental remediation and monitoring.
