Ninth attack in 2016 against the North Peruvian Pipeline (ONP)
This morning, a crude leak was detected in the 15.3 Km. of Stretch I of the ONP, near the locality of Maypuco, district of Urarinas, Loreto Region, as a consequence of a new attack against this infrastructure.
The Contingency Plan immediately put into action, and through it personnel of PETROPERU and the specialized companies INMAC and LAMOR traveled to Maypuco, where the duct was immediately repaired by attaching a staple to it. Additionally, containment barriers were installed in the flotation canal to stop the crude from expanding.
As was previously reported, the operation of the ONP is paralyzed in the month of February of this year. Instead, we have suffered nine pipeline cuts due to actions of third parties, which has forced the Board to declare the company in a state of Emergency. Additionally, the Government has published regulations that punish with jail time those who inflict damages to this infrastructure.
PETROPERU calls out to the people were causing these breaks, to stop doing this, as they are putting the health of the neighboring populations at risk, as well as negatively affecting the environment.
These events are also causing severe economic prejudice to the company and the oil industry as a whole. Additionally, the resources of the canon that benefit the region and the Emerson communities are being reduced.
PETROPERU will continue to make its maximum efforts to carry out the corresponding technical and operational actions to correct the events in the shortest time possible and in compliance with the industry standards. Additionally, it has made itself available to the competent regulatory authorities and the community in general in order to continue informing on the fact.
