New Talara Refinery starts the true startup of its last two processing plants
The Chairman of the Board of Directors, Pedro Chira Fernández, ratified the company's commitment to put the New Talara Refinery into full operation in this second semester, processing up to 95,000 barrels of crude to obtain quality fuels that are friendly to the environment, as well as a refining margin that will contribute to the financial sustainability of the company.
As part of the last stage of the gradual, progressive and safe start-up process, commissioning of the Fluidized Catalytic Cracking Unit will begin in the coming days, to finally do the same with the Flexicoking Unit, which is only present in nine refineries in the world, including NRT.
During her tour of the facilities, Chira Fernández urged the workers to continue working with high safety standards and full commitment to achieving the company's strategic objectives, among which she highlighted the vertical integration that has been taking place progressively.
Along these lines, he recalled that Petroperú has been temporarily operating Lot I of the Talara basin, maintaining optimal and sustained production of oil and natural gas, which in 2022 has generated profits and has been benefiting the population of the area of influence with the execution of social responsibility actions.
Likewise, he indicated that the company's participation in the northwest lots —close to expiration— will take place within the legal framework in force in the country, will allow the company to continue with the vertical integration and guarantee the supply of crude oil from the area to the NRT at an efficient cost. "We expect to continue operating Lot I with the extension of the contract for that oil field and have a significant participation in Lots VI and Z2B this year," he added.
Regarding Lot 192, he reported that recovery and maintenance work is being carried out that will allow production activities to start next year, together with the strategic partner, whose qualification Perupetro has been evaluating.
During her day, Chira Fernández presided over the decentralized session of the Board of Directors and participated together with the directors and corporate managers in other activities aimed at optimizing the processes of the State company, guaranteeing its sustainability.
