The execution of the Talara Refinery Modernization Project registers a comprehensive progress of 97.14%, with its gradual and safe start expected from next April. This was verified by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of PETROPERÚ, Mario Contreras Ibárcena, who in a recent visit on-site verified the latest construction, reception and commissioning work of the Auxiliary Units that has been carried out and which also include security drills, where the actions provided for in the Emergency and Contingency Response Plans approved by the competent authorities are carried out.

Contreras Ibárcena toured the facilities of the new refining complex accompanied by the directors Rafael Zoeger and Juan Pari; as well as the Corporate Operations Manager, Óscar Vera; the Corporate Manager of the Talara Refinery, Arturo Rodríguez; and the PMRT and Management Department Manager, Gustavo Villa, who provided details on the progress made and the stabilization period of its 7,000 items of equipment, 35,000 instruments, systems and interconnections, which is estimated to last at least six months.

Likewise, they verified the implementation of the Risk Management System that has been designed for the New Talara Refinery, which includes more than 36 specific Emergency Response Plans and a Contingency Plan for cases of hydrocarbon spills in the sea, which have been developed with the advice of international specialists and approved by the competent authorities, which guarantees a safe operation.

During their tour, the management team visited the feed system, oven, tower and outlet rack of the Primary Distillation Unit, the oven tower of the Vacuum Distillation Unit, the Diesel Hydrotreatment Unit, Flexicocking and the Pier 2 Terminal port.

The New Talara Refinery will be one of the most modern on the southern Pacific coast. It will process cheaper heavy crude oil and produce a greater volume of clean and valuable fuels, with a maximum of 50 parts per million (ppm) of sulfur, in accordance with international environmental regulations and national regulations, allowing the improvement of air quality and the health of Peruvians.
