New Petroperú Talara Refinery starts dispatching LPG
The New Talara Refinery (NRT) officially began LPG production, after completing the start-up operations of its most important units, such as the Fluidized Catalytic Cracking (FCC) and Flexicoking (FCK), both equipped with the latest technology globally.
This production thus marks a milestone in the history of the state oil company as it will produce up to 5,000 barrels of LPG per day to supply the cities that are part of the north and northeast region of the country. Like low sulfur gasoline and diesel, LPG production at the NRT will gradually increase as the stage of optimization and continuous production of the modern refining complex progresses.
The president of Petroperú, Pedro Chira Fernández, accompanied by the head of the Energy and Mining portfolio, Óscar Vera Gargurevich, participated in this event, in a ceremony where the technology of the FCC unit, present in all highly complex refineries, was highlighted. , since it is licensed by the American company Honeywell UOP, which will allow the state oil company to produce high-octane gasoline, diesel and LPG.
It should be noted that the New Talara Refinery will be able to process up to 95 thousand barrels of oil per day to produce fuels with low sulfur content and of the highest quality to supply the national market.
During the phase of the gradual and progressive start-up, the NRT began the production of gasoline and diesel with less than 50 parts per million of sulfur, among other fuels for aviation and industrial use. Thus, it has produced 950,900 barrels (bbl) of gasoline, 365,490 of virgin naphtha, 3,925,584 bbl of B5 S-50 diesel, 473,981 bbl of Turbo A1, among other quality fuels, reaching a total production of 13,009,238 bbl.
NRT
The New Talara Refinery has been designed to process light and heavy crudes such as those produced in the country and other parts of the world for the generation of fuels with low sulfur content. Therefore, it does not depend on any specific type of heavy crude, since it is prepared to process the different types that exist in the national and international market.
In economic matters, the NRT will improve the trade balance of hydrocarbons, also maintaining the sustainability of the business. Likewise, it will reduce the risk of fuel shortages, with more competitive prices for consumers; also generating thousands of direct and indirect jobs.
Oil lots
Petroperú ratifies its interest in assuming the operations of lots I, VI and Z-2B, whose contracts are about to expire, thus seeking the maximum and efficient recovery of hydrocarbon production in said lots.
Oil from the northwest is strategic for the NRT because it makes up the optimized load diet to generate high refining margins that will contribute to offering the country quality fuels at a more competitive price in wholesale sales.
Since December 2021, Petroperú has been operating Lot I, maintaining optimal and sustained production, within the framework of the 22-month temporary license contract, which expires on October 27.
