New barge “Río Saramuro” will transport fuel through the Amazon
The new barge "Río Saramuro", with the capacity to transport 20 thousand barrels (MB), was blessed in the shipyards of the Industrial Service of the Iquitos Marina (SIMAI).
“Río Saramuro” is part of the construction project of 12 double-hulled vessels that SIMAI built on behalf of PETROPERU in accordance with current environmental regulations to improve the safety conditions in the transport of fuels through the Amazon.
PETROPERÚ has in its river fleet vessels such as Río Yarapa, Putumayo, Pisqui, Tahuayo, Urubamba, Ampiyacu, Yavari of 8 MB and Lagoons of 20 MB capacity. All these are named after the rivers of the Amazon basin and are operating in the transport of hydrocarbons on the route between Refinería Iquitos, Pucallpa and Yurimaguas.
The launch of “Río Saramuro” was developed with the presence of Carlos Barrientos Gonzales, General Manager of PETROPERU; Santiago Santa María, Supply Chain Manager; Martín Chancafe Gray, Selva Refining Manager, among other Company officials. On behalf of the Navy, Vice Admiral Santiago Vascones Morey, Chief of the General Staff of the Navy, participated; Rear Admiral Javier Bravo of Rueda Delgado; Captain Gonzalo Cruz Saco, Head of SIMA - Iquitos, and other senior naval officers.
Next year, the delivery of the “Puerto América” “Río Mayo” and “Paranapura” vessels, of 20 MB each, is expected to meet the objective of transporting fuels more safely through the rivers of the Forest.
