New attack against the North Peruvian Pipeline
PETROPERU informs that today, again the North Peruvian Pipeline (ONP) has been subject to a criminal act that has caused an oil spill at the height of Km. 371 + 734 of Section II of the ONP, in the community of Tayuntsa, province of Condorcanqui, Amazon Region, near the Nieva River. In this sector the pipeline is exposed (aerial crossing)
The event was detected at 06.38 hours, immediately activating the Contingency Plan, moving to the area a specialized technical team to perform the works of containment and repair of the pipeline. The amount of oil spilled has not yet been determined.
It should be noted that the pumping of crude in the ONP is paralyzed as a result of the measure of force initiated by indigenous federations on July 5 and that generated the seizure of Station 5.
The event is being informed to the inspection bodies. Likewise, the immediate intervention of the National Police and the Public Prosecutor's Office has been requested, as it is an act caused by third parties against the infrastructure of the ONP, considered a critical national asset.
It is important to point out that, according to the results of internal inspection carried out on the pipeline, no anomalies have been identified in this sector, so it is ruled out that this event corresponds to a structural failure.
We will continue informing about the evolution of the situation and we invoke the inhabitants to allow the entry of personnel to the affected area, to perform the corresponding repair and cleaning actions, in order to protect the communities and the environment.
